excellent weekend

Ever since we made our home here in New Zealand, I've been waiting for the day where I can do two completely different awesome things in one weekend. This weekend was it.

On Saturday, I went out to the glider field in Hororata, took the picture on the left above, and had a fantastic soaring flight of 80 minutes. The only reason I came back when I did was because I got a late start (16:15 takeoff) and the sun was starting to get really low on the horizon after an hour or so. Despite the choppy lift and the lateness of the hour, that was my longest duration glider flight to date.

On Sunday, Amy and I drove up to Mt. Hutt to go skiing. I took the picture on the right above, and we had a great spring skiing day. It's been a really dry season this year and the mountain doesn't have a lot of snow, but they've done a pretty good job with snowmaking and grooming to make most of the terrain skiable. Some places were icy, some were soggy, some were rocky, but overall it was an excellent day.

We're both pretty tired now though. It's great to be able to come home after skiing and sleep in our own bed.
