Xearth for Windows Release Notes ================================ Greg Hewgill Xearth for Windows Home Page: http://hewgill.com/xearth/ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Known problems in the current release ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ - When xearth is rendering a new image, there is no indicator that this is happening. - Under certain combinations of background settings, xearth may render an image but will not be able to display it on the screen. If this happens, right click on your desktop, select Properties, and select any existing image file to display on the background. The next time you refresh xearth, it should display the rendered earth. - Xearth will not be able to update the desktop if Active Desktop is set to "View as web page". ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 2012-01-11 Version 1.2 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ - Updated the URL of the USGS data to support the new RSS feed instead of the old text page. The new URL used is: http://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/catalogs/eqs7day-M5.xml This feed reports the last 7 days of magnitude 5 or greater. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 2006-07-27 Version 1.1.1 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ - Fixed a long-standing problem with some proxy servers. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 2003-07-05 Version 1.1.0 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ - xearth no longer uses the old "finger" protocol for earthquake updates. The current earthquake information is now retrieved from the url: http://neic.usgs.gov/neis/finger/quake.asc This will solve many problems with proxies, firewalls, and filters. - The updates in Kirk Johnson's original xearth version 1.1 have been incorporated. This includes: - new "moon" position specifier - new "galactic" rotation specifier - cylindrical projection Previous versions would automatically enable the "galactic" image rotation in the orthographic projection if the rotation was set to 0. If you prefer the galactic rotation style (where the tilt of the earth's axis relative to the orbital plane is shown), then you will now need to explicitly turn it on. - Previous versions would install a global hotkey of Ctrl+Alt+X to bring up the xearth configuration dialog. This was annoying to some people and not very useful, so it is gone. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 2000-01-01 Version 1.0.1 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ - Fixed Y2K problem in reporting earthquake dates. - When the "Interval between updates" for earthquake data is set to 0, xearth will never try to contact the earthquake server. It used to always try once on startup, but this was annoying for some people. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 1998-03-21 Version 1.0.0 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ - First release version.
