total lunar eclipse

Today's total lunar eclipse was visible at a relatively decent hour here in New Zealand - totality was roughly 21:52 through 23:22. The weather throughout the day was cold wet southerly winds, which brought occasional showers and full cloud cover. However, around 22:30 it stopped drizzling and cleared up enough to get some decent eclipse views.

I brought my telescope outside but didn't have a battery available to power the motor drive (yes, lack of planning), so long exposures during totality were not possible. I did manage to get a couple of acceptable shots though. See more pictures in my gallery.

We got up at 2am to go out and watch it. Dragged our new telescope along and everything. It was awesome. THanks for the photos.

Yeah, I was up at 5 AM watching it *yawn*. At least it was warm and perfectly clear. :)
